Geospatial technologies are recognized as one of the three highest growth industries in the US today. Learn how to incorporate the tools of this trade to support science, mathematics and geography! We’ll providedozens of easy activities using Global Positioning Systems (GPS), digital cameras, and electronic probewaremapped out in a geographic information system (GIS).

GIS is the common tool to easily analyze all these data in a single interface. GPS and remote sensed imageryprovide context for concepts from geometry to algebra, chemistry to physics, or agriculture to business.These technologies open worlds of investigation for your classroom, after school clubs or science fairprojects. Whether you want to add technology into your current classes, work with a 4-H club or monitorlocal water quality, this workshop will enhance your confidence in using technology toteach. What better way to learn these technologies than a project-based institute usingthese tools. Teachers taking the course will be certified to offer student credit whenteaching these technologies at their own schools.

Target Audience: Middle School, Secondary and College teachers from geography, science, math, and technology who would like to integrate GIS, GPS, and Remote Sensing into their curriculum.

Class Meeting Times: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday June 20 – Friday June 24, 2011Registration: $550; Deadline is May 31, 2010. Early registrations will save $5 0ff the registration and payment is received by April 30, 2010. ND Teachers arecovered by state funds.

Credit: 2 Graduate College Credits available from Minot State, UND or NDSU; participants expense.

Materials Provided:• Mapping Our World Using GIS, Analyzing Our World Using GIS, andGoing Places with GPS. Over 30 ready to go exercises for both GPS and GIS

.• 40 hours of hands-on exercises and exploration to succeed back home!

• Two year-long lab site licenses (can be used successively). ND teachers receivefree software as part of their state wide license.
