A recommendation for this app was sent in by Joseph Kerski from ESRI. We love it – thanks for the heads up Joseph!

“Install WhatWasThere and your iPhone or iPod Touch becomes a portable portal into the past!

After launch, the app will detect where you are and show you any historic photographs that were captured nearby plotted on a map! Switch into Camera view for an augmented reality experience of the history that surrounds you!

If you’re at a location where a historic photo was taken, enlarge the photo to full screen mode to use your camera and the on screen fader to transition between past and present! Launch the Info screen for more detail, including source information should you want to investigate further!

No photos nearby? Visit us at WhatWasThere.com to contribute to the experience! WhatWasThere – Put history in its place!”

We live in a society addicted to technology. More smartphones are being used in the classroom and in our offices every day. To help you leverage the technology available to you, we explore, try and share links to apps that can help you and your students.

Every week we select a new app and share its description in our “Apps We Love” column. We do not endorse devices from any one company or receive any kind of compensation for these features. We just share links to apps that can help you teach, learn, work and grow.
